Updates from the opening game of the 90th Sweet Sixteen in Rupp Arena.

- Chris Lewis led Adair County with 12 points. Darren Ballou had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Kalen Kimberland had 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Indians, who improved to 24-9.
- Ryan Young’s 17 points paced Lincoln County, which finished the season 24-10.
- Just supposing …if Adair County sophomore Darren Ballou eventually played for Kentucky, he could have the coolest nickname in UK history: Cat Ballou.
- Adair County leads 39-32 with 2:37 left. Kalen Kimberland (shown at right taking a shot as Ryan Young looks on) has 7 points for Adair County. Chris Lewis leads the Indians with 12 points.
- Braxton Miller’s dunk (shown below right in photo by David Stephenson) was a highlight for Lincoln county.
- Chris Lewis has 10 points for Adair County, which leads 33-22 after three quarters. Darren Ballou has 6 points and 7 rebounds for the Indians, who are shooting 13-for-26 (50%). Lincoln County is 10-for-34 (29%).
- UK Coach Tubby Smith and assistant Reggie Hanson are on hand to watch the action.
- Halftime score: Adair County 23, Lincoln County 16. Trent Calhoun went the length of the court and hit a leaning layup at the buzzer to pull Lincoln County to within 7. Adair County is 9-for-15 (60%) from the field and is led by Chris Lewis’ 6 points. Lincoln County is 7-for-22 (32%). The Patriots top scorer is Noah Keeton with 6 points.
- Kyle Macy is chatting up Mr. Wildcat, Bill Keightley, right behind the scorer’s table.
- Midway through the second quarter Adair County is 6-for-11 from the field and leads 17-14. Lincoln County is shooting 6-for-19.

Lincoln County’s Daniel Ralston gets the first basket — a putback — of the 90th Sweet Sixteen. The Patriots’ lead didn’t last long – Joseph Willis answered with a three-pointer for Adair County.- Daniel Beasley of Elizabethtown did a solo rendition of the national anthem.
- Clem Haskins, one of the best high school players in Kentucky history, was one of the first fans in the stands this morning. The former Western Kentucky University and Minnesota coach said he came to watch all the teams, but he’s especially pulling for Adair County, which is from his area of the state. He led Taylor County to the 1963 Sweet Sixteen. At that time Taylor County was in the 6th Region, but that’s now 5th Region territory.
- Adair County’s first Sweet Sixteen appearance in 12 years has had a ripple effect on events back home. Lindsey Wilson College, which is in Adair County, moved two of its spring trustee committee meetings from Columbia to Lexington today. Another reason for the change of venue: Adair County Coach Mark Fudge, is a 1981 Lindsey Wilson graduate, and wife Denise is a vice president at the college.

Nice post. Enjoyed your comments regarding the game. We are proud of this Adair County team accomplishing Adair County’s first state tournament WIN in over 50 years! Glad the Hearald gives us credit for the WIN. WKYT’s coverage tonight was all about Lincoln County’s LOSS.
