- It was no contest after the first few minutes as No. 1 Scott County, which led by 29 points in the third quarter, ran its record to 31-2, including 27-0 against Kentucky teams. Tyler Portwood had 10 points to lead the winners. Bud Mackey and Matt Walls added 9 apiece in limited action.
- Oldham County was led by Billy Payne’s 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Colonels had 25 turnovers and shot 36%.
- We’re just waiting for the clock to run out the last three minutes. Scott County leads 57-37 and its starters and top reserves have already been on the bench for a while. Despite the score, you can tell the kids on the court are enjoying the experience. When Oldham County sophomore Michael Gasser hit a 15-footer, his smile lit up the place.
- It’s lopsided here in Rupp after three quarters as Scott County holds a 51-23 lead, and fans are streaming out the aisles. Tyler Portwood’s 10 points lead a balanced Cards’ attack. Oldham County hasn’t scored double figures in any quarter. The Colonels have 23 turnovers and are shooting 28%.
- Jordan Lee (shown blocking Billy Payne’s shot in the first half) has 8 rebounds and 4 points for Scott County which has built its lead to 48-21 midway through the third quarter. Bud Mackey’s 9 points pace the Cards. Oldham County has 21 turnovers.
- It looked like an unfair advantage for Scott County when for a half-time shooting contest between two students from each school, Scott County had all-state guard Rebecca Gray on the court. But surprise! Oldham County won the shootout.
- Halftime score: Scott County 36, Oldham County 15. Tyler Portwood’s 7 points off the bench lead the Cards, who have forced 16 turnovers. Bud Mackey had 6 early points. Billy Hicks has rested his starters a lot, and has gotten 18 points from his bench. Oldham County is shooting 6-for-24 (25%). Its top scorer is Josh Koebel with 4 points.
- Scott County has pumped its lead to 34-14 with 2:22 left. Oldham County has 12 turnovers and is shooting 25%.
- Things are getting out of hand for Oldham County, which already has 10 turnovers and trails Scott County 28-9 with 4:45 minutes left in the first half. Oldham County has missed 14 of 18 shots.
- Scott County leads 18-9 after the first quarter. The Cards rested starters Bud Mackey, Matt Walls and Cam Hundley the last three minutes. Oldham County is 4-for-15 (27%). Marcus Burchfield has 4 points off the bench for Scott County.
- Rodney Haddix is sitting on the Scott County bench. Haddix would have been a senior star on this Scott County team, but he was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA before the school year began. He attended a prep school in Las Vegas before breaking his foot in late December and returning home. He’s still exploring his options for next season.
- UK Coach Tubby Smith is sitting with former assistant and current Tennessee Tech Coach Mike Sutton on press row under the Scott County basket. Smith is probably checking out Cards’ senior guard Matt Walls, whom he has invited to walk on at UK.
- Bud Mackey has 6 quick points to spark Scott County to a 10-4 lead with 4:33 left in the first quarter. Mackey has a put-back, tip-in and nifty driving layup.
- Rumors — unfounded rumors — were flying this morning that Scott County senior guard Matt Walls broke his hand in practice yesterday. Mark Walls, Matt’s dad, said as soon as he arrived at Rupp Arena a couple hours ago he was peppered with questions about it. There absolutely nothing to the rumor. Bud Mackey, the Cardinals’ standout junior guard, did jam a couple fingers on his shooting hand and has them taped up. That might have been the genesis of the Walls’ rumor.

Like I said before, Oldham county offered NO resistance.
